"Professor" Chris Lee's 8,762 Mile Road Trip 2015!

Over the course of 32 days I drove 8,762 miles across the country. In my travels I visited many National Parks and monuments. Some of these included Rushmore,Badlands, Wind Cave, Yosemite, Grand Tetons, Great Basin, Inyo National Forest,  Death Valley, Tonto State Park, White Sands Monument, and White Oak Lake State Park. I was fortunate enough to camp in many of these areas and that allowed me to take many pictures of the night sky. During the day I was also able to explore the geology, topography, and ecology of each area.

The time I spent out in nature, alone, in starry skies was transformative. It made me realize that I am a stronger person than I thought. There were many geologic features that I was able to experience first hand which will allow me to better explain those formations to the Earth & Space Science class. Passing over many bridges and seeing infrastructure work being done directly ties in with my engineering class. Being able to capture (in photographs) many constellations and parts of the meteor shower directly relates to some topics in physics and also the ESS class. In general, I would say that the trip gave me a greater appreciation for mindfulness and appreciation for the greater world/universe around us.

During the summer of 2014, Johanna Garfinkel '15 worked in the lab of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The George Washington University as a part of her science research project at Holton. While working at the lab at GW, Johanna studied the drag of sea lions under Professor Megan Leftwich. A video about their research has recently been prominently featured on GW's homepage. Holton is proud to see that Johanna's work in the lab is being recognized! Way to go, Johanna!

Holton Students Return from Junior Journey to India!

Two groups of Holton students just returned from an eye-opening two weeks in India. While in there, the students experienced and grappled with the complex issues of development that are evident throughout the country, in both the city and in rural areas where 70% of Indians still reside.
